Taking it all in, If: Guatemala Part 2!

Taking it all in, If: Guatemala Part 2!

“Vas a donde te envían, Y te quedaras donde te ponen, Y das de lo que tienes Hasta que terminas.”

”Go where you’re sent, stay where you’re put, give what you’ve got.”

— Jill Briscoe

I didn't realize how much Guatemala had impacted me until I really sat down and began journaling. There are many nights where I have to write down all my thoughts, I know that if I do this, I will most likely fall asleep instead of staying up wrestling with them. I guess once I've unloaded it all on paper my mind is free to finally rest. It's been this way my entire life. It's in these late night conversations with God that I've found much depth to this significant trip I made.

In my previous blog post I described my journey to Guatemala. In this post, let's talk about what I experienced while there. I always tell my children that your experiences are based on your perspective. You can choose to have great ones or bad ones. I've learned after many years of battling anxiety and depression that this is key to training oneself to see the beauty in all things. Not to miss it because of fear or unexpected turn of events but to choose to make every situation a good one, perspective! This trip I told myself this, I told myself to only see what God wanted me to see, to let go of fear and enjoy each and every moment.  I wanted God to use me in whatever way He had planned. I didn't want to interrupt  His plan in any way.

After a wonderful breakfast with the team, we had some time before getting to work. We all could't wait to get out and walk the city. Alejandra who was the only other member of the worship team met us at the hotel and she and her mother joined us along. It was great because I got to know the two of them a whole lot better than through our weekly meet ups on Google Hangouts (this is how Ale and I would do worship practice) so this was such a treat.

They are both such amazing ladies and we became so close that it was difficult for me to leave them. I told Ale that I wanted to bring her back with me. This young lady is going places and I know one day I will see her again. She is sweet, humble and loves the Lord. It's funny because back when this all started, we were sitting in my aunts dining room discussing plans for IF: Guatemala and she asked me my thoughts on musicians to help me in leading worship.

I don't know how to play an instrument, and realistically I knew I couldn't learn to play one in time for the gathering. I had been praying about the ideal partner and when she asked me, I said in confidence, "God already has someone in mind, and she is a girl!"  A week later, my aunt texted me a video of Ale playing her guitar in her room, I got teary eyed because I knew God had answered my prayer and that Ale was the one! After IF: Guatemala, so many ladies asked how long had we known each other and how long had we been playing together. We both looked at each other and just smile! We'd answer, 'only about a month through video chat!' They'd all give us that amazed look! It was awesome, It was God!!!

Such a great morning and had a blast taking the city! When we got back to the hotel, Ale and I headed to the conference room to practice our worship set. The Holy Spirit was very present throughout rehearsals and Ale's mom Ingrid led us in an awesome prayer. It was no longer practice but we three were simply worshiping our God! It was great! The rest of the team were finishing up last minute details for our meet and greet that evening and for the Gathering on Saturday.
